Objectives
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the importance of physical activity as a public health issue. Describe the health
implications of low physical activity levels.
- Utilizing data from two (2) large clinical trials to the support the benefits of adhering to a routine
of regular physical activity, including the benefits related to body weight, heart disease, cancer
and depression.
- Discuss the association between BMI and fitness levels among adults. Use Fit/Fat & Mortality
data in men data to explain the basis for the "Fit versus fat" debate and the limitations of the data.
- Discuss motivation techniques and strategies to help patients overcome common barriers to exercise and integrate and accumulate physical activity in their daily lives.
- Identify self-monitoring tools for assessing activity level and energy expenditure (eg, pedometers,
physical activity records).
